Munoz Hat Trick Drives Comets Past Concordia Texas, 6-0

RICHARDSON, TX (10.05.19) - Sophomore Sofia Munoz recorded her second career hat trick Saturday night as the UT Dallas women's soccer team dominated Concordia Texas, 6-0, in American Southwest Conference play.

Munoz, a native of Dallas, scored the Comets' first two goals of the night in the opening nine minutes and then added a second-half tally to complete her three-goal performance. She also recorded a hat trick as a freshman in a 5-0 road win over Louisiana College on Sept. 20, 2018.

The Comets (10-0-1, 3-0-1 ASC) outshot CTX just 17-8, but finished the lop-sided victory with 13 shots on frame. Munoz took seven shots of her own, six of which were on goal, while Rana Hussein was the only other Comet with multiple shots, taking two.

Munoz' first goal of the night came in the third minute of the contest when she found the back of the net after a cross from the left by Morgan Stromberg, which was redirected by Stephanie White. Munoz then lifted the Comets to a 2-0 lead in the ninth minute, after a long pass by Keely Fillman and a cross by Hussein.

Hussein got in on the action in the 18th minute after a pass up the middle from Fillman to give UTD a 3-0 advantage. The Comets take a 4-0 lead into the break after an unassisted tally by Ashlyn Sims in the 31st minute.

Munoz' final goal came in the 61st minute, thanks to an assist by Hussein, while Hussein completed the scoring in the 65th minute, assisted with a long cross from the left by Stromberg.

UTD starting keeper Morgan Sherman made two saves in the opening half while Erin Clawson played the final 45 minutes goal, making two saves.

The Comets return to action next weekend against the two ASC leaders. UTD will visit McMurry Thursday and Hardin-Simmons Saturday.
