SAN JUAN, PR (12.19.19) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team forced two late turnovers and took care of business at the free-throw line down the stretch as the Comets earned a 56-51 win over SUNY Oneonta Thursday afternoon in the squad's opening game at the Puerto Rico Clasico.
The Comets (4-3) picked up their third consecutive victory after a 1-3 start to the season and will look for a fourth win a row Friday when they close the road trip with a 2:30 p.m. (Central) game against Elizabethtown.
Raenett Hughes and
Victoria Pena each finished with a game-high 17 points while
Kelley Skinner added eight points and grabbed an team-high six rebounds in the win. The Comets closed the game shooting 38.2 percent (21-of-55) from the field after overcoming a slow start. UTD trailed the Red Dragons, 13-6, after the opening period, hitting just 3-of-13 shots from the floor over the first 10 minutes of the contest. Oneonta (now 2-6) led by as many as 13 points late in the second period.
