AUSTIN, TX (02.16.19) - After a lop-sided win Friday afternoon to open the event, the UT Dallas baseball team was handed two losses Saturday to wrap up play at the Concordia Classic.
The Comets (2-5) kicked off Saturday with a 10-3 loss to host Concordia Texas before falling, 10-6, to Redlands in their weekend finale. UTD returns to action Tuesday afternoon when the Comets host Austin College in their home opener, weather permitting. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the UTD Baseball Field.
GAME 1 - CONCORDIA TEXAS 10, UTD 3
The host Tornados jumped out to a 9-0 lead before UTD could dent the scoreboard as the Comets dropped a 10-3 decision to Concordia Texas to open Saturday's action.
The Comets scored three runs in the top of the 7th off of three hits as
Garrett Uhl and
Peyton Becker each picked up RBI hits. With one out, Uhl tripled to right center, scoring both
Ryan Burciaga and
Aaron Fanning, to cut the CTX lead to 9-2. One batter later, Becker singled to right, bringing home Uhl. However, that would be all the offense the the Comets could muster off of just seven total hits.
GAME 2 - REDLANDS 10, UTD 6
The Comets again fell behind early, spotting Redlands nine early runs before plating five runs in the 4th inning. However, UTD would managed just one more run in a 10-6 loss to the Bulldogs after downing UR, 21-11, on Friday.
Down 9-0, UTD sent 10 batters to the plate in the top of the 4th, scoring five runs on just three hits. Uhl would draw a base-loaded walk with one out to open the scoring before the Comets would add two runs on a UR two-out error. UTD tacked on another run with an RBI single up the middle by
Austin Blanford and another bases-loaded walk, this time by
Austin Adams.
UTD gave one run back to the Bulldogs in the bottom of the 4th to fall behind 10-5.
Thomas Craig would later hit a solo home run with one out in the 9th, his team-leading third of the season, to complete the scoring.
