No. 19 Comets Get Defensive in 55-34 Win Over Ozarks

RICHARDSON, TX (02.07.19) - The No. 19-ranked UT Dallas women's basketball team collected its ninth consecutive win Thursday night as the Comets shut down Ozarks, 55-34, in American Southwest Conference East Division play.

With the win, the Comets improved to 18-4 overall and remained atop the ASC East standings with a 12-2 league mark. UTD will take a quick break from conference play Saturday afternoon as the Comets host Texas-Tyler for 'Senior Day'. Tip-off is 1 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.

UTD held the visiting Eagles without a three-pointer for the entire contest as Ozarks (now 12-11, 8-6 ASC) closed out the loss 0-for-16 from the beyond the arc. The Comets limited Ozarks to just 25 percent (11-of-44) accuracy on the night while forcing 19 turnovers in the squad's eight straight win by 20 or more points.

After a slugging start, the Comets dominated the second quarter, 20-4, to take control and roll into the locker room with a 29-15 advantage. UTD was not much better from long distance than the Eagles, hitting just 3-of-18 three-pointers (16.7%), and finished the game shooting just 29.2 percent (19-of-65) from the field as a team. However, the Comets made up for it at the free-throw line, hitting 14-of-15 (93.3%) shots form the stripe.

Victoria Pena had a game-high 12 points while Nkechinyerem added nine points. Raenett Hughes and Taylor Green each contributed eight points. Killey Skinner pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.
