AUSTIN, TX (03.29.19) - The UT Dallas baseball team suffered a pair of losses at No. 16-ranked Concordia Texas Friday night, 7-1 and 7-5, as the Comets kicked off a three-game American Southwest Conference series against the host Tornados.
The Comets (9-16, 2-6 ASC) will look to snap a three-game losing skid Saturday at 1 p.m. when the two teams close the set with a single nine-inning affair.
GAME 1 - CTX 7, UTD 1
The Comets collected six hits over the first three frames but were kept off the scoreboard until later in the contest as UTD dropped a 7-1 decision to open the three-game series with the Tornados.
Down 7-0 in the top of the 6th, UTD got its only run thanks to a solo homer by
Ryan Burciaga, his second of the season, to avoid the shutout. The Comets finished the game with just seven hits as Burciaga's long ball was UTD lone knock over the final four frames.
Burciaga finished the game 2-for-3.
GAME 2 - CTX 7, UTD 5
UTD began the second game of the day with three consecutive singles en route to a four-run opening frame before falling to the host Tornados, 7-5.
Four different Comets collected RBI in the 1st inning as UTD picked up five hits and scored all four of its runs in the frame before picking up a second out. Burciaga opened the scoring with a bases-loaded single to left before
Zach Jordan followed with an RBI walk to give the Comets a 2-0 cushion. UTD then added an RBI fielder's choice by
Dylan Palmer and a run-scoring single by
Patch Healy to take a four-run lead.
CTX cut the lead in half by the end of the 3rd inning before the Comets would tack on one final run with a two-out double by Burciaga, scoring
Jacob Perry. The Tornados then plated two runs in the bottom of the 4th, however, to draw within a run and knotted the game with a single tally in the 6th frame. CTX completed the doubleheader sweep with two runs in the bottom of he 8th on a homer by Carson Cox.
The Comets finished the night cap with 13 hits as Perry lead the way with a 4-for-5 performance with two runs scored.
Matt Mikusek was 3-for-5 from the lead-off position while Burciaga was 2-for-5 with two RBI.
