RICHARDSON, TX (04.14.19) - The UT Dallas women's tennis team played its final non-conference match of the season Sunday afternoon, earning a quick 9-0 win over regional foe Austin College at the UTD Tennis Courts.
After a perfect run through doubles play, the Comets (now 8-1) rolled to six singles wins, including five straight victories as UTD claimed its third straight team victory.
Top-flighted duo of
Kathy Joseph and
Sindhu Ravula retained their unbeaten record with an 8-1 win over AC's Melody Duong/Diana Carvajalino.
Sumvruta Iyengar and
Frida Muedsam and earned an 8-2 win at No. 2 while
Svaksha Iyengar and
Stephanie Joseph notched an 8-3 win at No. 3.
Kathy Joseph then pushed the Comets' lead to 4-0 after a 6-1, 6-2, win over Duong No. 1 singles, extending the junior's win streak to open the season to nine straight victories, all at No. 1 for UTD. Ravula then locked down the team win with a 6-4, 6-0, at No. 5 singles over Kirsten Weber.
Sumvruta Iyengare (No. 2, 6-2, 6-1), Muedsa (No.3, 6-2, 7-6),
Sophie Farmer (No. 4, 6-3, 7-5) and
Svaksha Iyengar (No.. 6, 4-6, 7-5, 10-7) also earned singles wins over the 'Roos.
The Comets will close out the regular season Thursday with a 3 p.m. home match against Howard Payne in American Southwest Conference West Division play. UTD has also clinched a second-straight ASC West title and will host the the conference tournament for the first time in program history.
