RICHARDSON, TX (04.18.19) - The UT Dallas women's tennis team closed out its second straight American Southwest Conference West Division title run Thursday afternoon with a brisk 9-0 home win over Howard Payne as part of Senior Day festivities.
The Comets wrapped up the regular season with a 9-1 overall record and posted a 6-0 ASC West mark, winning all six divisional matches by the score of 9-0. UTD will host the ASC Tournament for the first time in program history, May 2-4, at the UTD Tennis Courts.
UTD gave up just one game in doubles action and then rolled to six straight-set singles wins over the Jackets. The Comets dropped just three total games in the six singles matches against HPU.
Sisters
Sumvruta Iyengar and
Svaksha Iyengar kicked things off with a quick 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles over HPU's Lacey Eagan/Brittany Cortez. Top-flighted
Kathy Joseph and
Sindhu Ravula added an 8-1 win at No. 1 while the duo of
Elizabeth Labra and
Sophie Farmer tacked on an 8-0 win at No. 2 to pushed the Comets to a 3-0 advantage heading into singles action.
Joseph was the first to finish her singles match as she dispatched Lady Jacket Erin McCleer, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles to give UTD a 4-0 lead. Labra then secured the team win for the Comets with a 6-0, 6-0, win of her own at No. 5 over Hailey Osborne.
Sumvruta Iyengar (No. 2, 6-0, 6-0),
Frida Muedsam (No. 3, 6-0, 6-2), Farmer (No. 4, 6-0, 6-0) and
Adrienne Large (No. 6, 6-1, 6-0) also picked up straight-set wins for the Comets.
