ABILENE, TX (04.06.19) - After a 5-0 start to the spring, the UT Dallas women's tennis team suffered its first loss season, an 7-2 defeat by No. 19-ranked Trinity in non-conference play.
The Comets (5-1) took a quick 1-0 lead over Trinity with an 8-0 win by top doubles tandem of
Kathy Joseph and
Sindhu Ravula, but the Tigers reponded with wins at both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Trinity (8-5) rolled off five straight wins to open singles play before Joseph earned a three-set win at No. 1, 6-7, 6-4, 10-2, over Tiger Caroline Kutach in a battle of two of the top-ranked women's players in the NCAA Division III West Region. In the latest rankings, Joseph is ranked No. 5 in the West while Kutach is No. 6.
The duo of Joseph and Ravula is the No. 12 ranked doubles tandem in the NCAA D-III West Region and should climb in the next ranking after their win over Trinity's Mary and Zoe Kaffen, the No. 3 ranked women's doubles team in the West in the latest poll.Â
The next regional rankings are set to be reloaded April 11.
The Comets return to American Southwest Conference West Division play Sunday with a 3 p.m. road match at McMurry.
