Comet Women Blank McMurry For Another Divisional Shutout

ABILENE, TX (04.08.19) - The UT Dallas women's tennis team earned yet another shutout victory in American Southwest Conference West Division Sunday afternoon, blanking McMurry 9-0 to close the Comets' weekend trip to Abilene.

The Comets improved to 6-1 overall and sit atop the ASC West standings now with a 4-0 mark with just two divisional matches left to play this spring. UTD will look to lock up at least a share of their second straight ASC West title Friday when the Comets host Sul Ross State at 1 p.m. at the UTD Tennis Courts.

UTD made quick work of the host War Hawks (7-7, 2-1 ASC West) in doubles play before collecting six straight-set wins in singles en route to the squads' fifth 9-0 decision in its seven matches this spring.

Top-flighted Kathy Joseph and Sindhu Ravula kept perfect record intact with an 8-2 win at No.1 doubles over McMurry's Samantha Ritz/Kaitlyn Roberts. The duo, currently ranked No. 12 in the NCAA Division III West Region, is 7-0 this spring as the Comets' top doubles tandem.

The Comets added an 8-1 win by Elizabeth Labra and Sophie Farmer at No. 3 doubles and an 8-6 win by sisters Sumvruta Iyengar and Svaksha Iyengar at No. 2 to grab a 3-0 lead heading to singles action.

Sophie Farmer was the first Comet to wrap up her singles match, downing McMurry's Gabrielle Ellwanger, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2. Joseph then secure the team victory with a 6-1, 6-1, win over Samantha Ritz at No. 1. Joseph is currently the No. 5-ranked singles player in the NCAA D-III West Region.

Up 5-0, the Comets added straight-set wins by Sumvruta Iyengar (No. 2, 6-2, 6-4), Ravula (No. 4, 6-4, 6-3), Svaksha Iyengar (No. 5, 6-2, 6-3) and Labra (No. 6, 6-0, 6-3).
