RICHARDSON, TX (04.07.19) - The UT Dallas baseball team finished off its first series sweep of the season as the Comets used an 8-1 win to close a three-game American Southwest Conference set with Ozarks Sunday afternoon.
The defending conference champion Comets improved to 13-16 with Sunday's victory and now sit 8th in the ASC with three weeks left in the regular season.Â
Freshman
Brett Bihm (3-3) gave up one run on five scattered hits in 6.2 innings of work as the Comets gave him all the offense he needed by the 2nd inning of the contest. Bihm struck out two Eagles without issuing a walk. Junior reliever
Logan McPherson then made his second appearance of the series and struck out six batters in 2.1 hitless innings to lock down the win for UTD.
The Comets opened the scoring in the 2nd with a bases-loaded walk by
Austin Adams, quickly followed by a single by
Matt Mikusek to take an early 2-0 lead. UTD doubled its lead in the 3rd with two runs on an Eagle error. The Comets tacked on two more runs in the 4th on a single by
Ryan Burciaga to right center before Ozarks would dent the scoreboard with a sacrifice fly in the top of the 6th.
Up 6-1 in the bottom of the 6th, Burciaga blasted his fourth homer of the season, a solo shot to left, and Jordan led off the Comet half of the 7th with a long ball to left center, his third of the year.
Burciaga was 2-for-4 from the plate with three RBI and two runs scored while Jordan also finished 2-fof-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Mikusek and
Dylan Palmer were each 2-for-3.
The Comets will take a short break from ASC play Wednesday with a 7 p.m. non-conference game at Austin College in Sherman.
