Fillman's Double-OT Game-Winner Pushes Comets Past Edgewood, 1-0

RICHARDSON, TX (09.13.19) - Just 28 seconds into the second overtime period, UT Dallas All-American Keely Fillman snuck in the game-winner as the Comets outlasted Edgewood, 1-0, Friday night in non-conference play.

No shortage of scoring opportunities on the night, the Comets (5-0) finished the contest with 32 shots and impressive 21 shots on target in the narrow victory. Edgewood keeper Grace Wildeboer would finish the losing effort with 18 saves as she nearly single-handedly kept the Eagles in the contest.

Fillman, a junior from Los Angeles, Calif., scored an apparent goal in the opening half but was called offside inside the six-yard box in the 21st minute after a Comet corner kick. UTD would take 13 shots in the opening half and 14 in the second 45 minutes only to enter extra time with the Eagles scoreless. The Comets added four shots in the first overtime period, three of which were on target, before Fillman's game-winner.

The UTD defense limited the Eagles (1-3-1) to just four shots in the contest, two of which were on goal. EC took two shots in the opening half and had two more shots in the first overtime frame. UTD keeper Morgan Sherman finished the shutout with one save. The Comets held possession 66 percent of the contest, working on EC's side of the field a majority of that time.

Fillman and teammate Sofia Munoz each led the Comets with seven shots while Stephanie White took six shots. UTD's 32 shots was the most in a game this season and the most in a contest for the program since taking 46 shots in the 2018 season opener against Hiram.

The Comets return to the pitch Sunday when they host Pfeiffer.
