Comets Open ASC Crossover With Sweeps of SRSU, HSU

LONGVIEW, TX (09.27.19) - The UT Dallas volleyball program opened the first of two American Southwest Conference Crossover Tournaments Friday with a pair of 3-0 wins, facing West Division foes Sul Ross State and Hardin-Simmons during the first day of play on the campus of LeTourneau University.

With Saturday's two victories, the Comets improved to 10-3 overall and 5-0 in ASC play and will put their seven-match winning streak on the line at 12 p.m. Saturday against McMurry.

MATCH 1 - UTD 3, SRSU 0
The Comets hit .387 as a team and needed little time to open the three-match event with the sweep of the Lobos, 25-13, 25-14, 26-24. 

Catherine Croft, the reigning ASC East Offensive Player of the Week, led the Comets with 14 kills, hitting .545, while adding 11 digs in the three-set victory. Madison Ball added 11 kills while Jillian Via had 10 kills along with a match-high 14 digs.

MATCH 2 - UTD 3, HSU 0
UTD again had the hot hand, hitting .372 as a squad in Saturday's late win over Hardin-Simmons, 25-22, 25-12, 25-21.

Via paced the Comet attack with a match-high 14 kills, hitting .565, while adding eight digs, three aces and a block in the sweep of the Cowgirls. Croft had eight kills while Allison Owen finished with six kills.

After a close opening set, the Comets hit an astounding .556 as a team in the second set, committing just two errors in the stanza.
