No. 25 Comets Hold Off LeTourneau, 71-60, For ASC East Win

LONGVIEW, TX (01.11.20) - UT Dallas guards Victoria Pena and Raenett Hughes combined for 46 points as the No. 25-ranked UT Dallas women's basketball team earned a 71-60 road win over LeTourneau Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference East Division play.

The Comets improved to 10-4 overall and 4-1 in ASC East play after Saturday's win, holding on to the top spot in the league's divisional standings. UTD will return home Thursday night to host Louisiana College in another divisional contest. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.

UTD used a dominant second period, outscoring the host YellowJackets, 18-9, and forcing seven turnovers, to pull away for a double-digit halftime lead. Up 36-23 heading into the second half, the Comets and would extend their lead to as many as 18 points midway through the fourth before LETU made a late run to trim the final margin.

Pena and Hughes, two of the program's four 1,000-point scorers, both finished with 23 points as the Comets shot 46 percent from the floor and poured in eight three-pointers, one shy of the squad's season high. Pena was 9-for-14 from the field, hitting three treys, while adding five rebounds and a pair of assists. Hughes hit 9-of-20 shots and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds. Fellow starter Kelley Skinner rounded out the Comets in double figures, adding 10 points and seven boards.

The Comets were 8-of-12 from three-point range while hitting just 13-of-25 free throws (52%). UTD out-rebounded the YellowJackets, 44-34 and closed the game forcing 13 turnovers.
