Comet Men Extend Winning Streak With 74-56 Victory Over Wildcats

PINEVILLE, LA (02.15.20) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team held tight to its lead in the American Southwest Conference East Division while collecting the squad's sixth straight victory in a 74-56 road win over Louisiana College Saturday afternoon.

With Saturday's win, the Comets improved to 18-5 overall and remain atop the ASC East standings, now 12-2, with just two games left in the regular season. UTD can secure at least a share of a ninth all-time regular-season title Thursday with the Comets host Hardin-Simmons in ASC crossover play. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.

Jalen Weber scored a game-high 23 points to lead four Comets in double digits as the Comets completed their regular-season sweep of the host Wildcats. Weber was 7-for-14 from the floor and a perfect 8-for-8 from the line while adding five assists and three rebounds. Hans Burwitz added 13 points and 11 rebounds for his ASC-leading 14th 'double-double' performance of the season. Michael Forster and Hunter Stevens each added 12 points while Forster led the game with 12 rebounds, his fourth 'double-double' of the year.

The Comets set the tone early, rolling off a 7-2 lead by the first media timeout and never looked back. UTD secured its first double-digit lead at the 10:16 mark of the opening half on a Forster lay up, lifting the Comets to a 22-11 advantage.  The Wildcats would fight back late in the half, but UTD extended its lead back to eight points at the break, 34-26.

LC trimmed the Comet lead down to three points, 43-40, with 11:25 left to play after a KD Wallace free throw and eventually draw within two points with just more than six minutes on the clock. Leading 55-53 at the 6:06 mark of the half, the Comets would close the game on an 18-3 run, holding the Wildcats 1-for-8 from the field over the final five minutes.

The Comets shot 46.2 percent (24-of-52) from the floor, hitting just 6-of-23 three-pointers (26.1%), and were 20-of-29 (69%) from the free-throw line.
