KERRVILLE, TX (02.15.20) - The UT Dallas softball team opened the second weekend of the season with a non-conference doubleheader split at Schreiner Saturday afternoon.
The Comets (now 2-4) opened Saturday's twin bill with a 5-3 win over the host Mountaineers, but dropped the night cap, 2-1. UTD will continue its weekend road trip Sunday with a 12 p.m. doubleheader at Trinity in San Antonio.
GAME 1 - UTD 5, Schreiner 3
The Comets plated three runs in the top of the 6th to collect a 5-3 win over Schreiner to open Saturday's slate.
Tied 2-2 after five,
Jessica Vlasek broke open the game with a bases-loaded single, scoring
Ashley Ambrosy.
Megan Todd followed up with an RBI single of her own, bringing home
Elizabeth Brann, before
Gabi Langille completed the three-run 6th with a bases-loaded walk, plating
Matee Simon.
The Comets opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of th 1st on RBI singles by
Nicole Peters and Todd, but Schreiner answered with single runs in the 3rd and 5th. The Mountaineers got a run back in the bottom of the 6th, but left the bases loaded.
Devyn Yanello picked up the complete-game win, scattering 10 hits with three strikeouts. Todd finished 3-for-4 with two RBI while Peters was 2-for-4.
GAME 2 - Schreiner 2, UTD 1
The host Mountaineers scored twice early before UTD could get on the scoreboard as Schreiner earned a 2-1 win over the Comets in the final game of the day.
Schreiner took a 1-0 lead in the 1st and doubled its lead in the 4th before
Avery Markley would come home on a Mountaineer error on an Ambrosy ground ball in the 5th.
The Comets out-hit Schreiner, 8-6, but would leave eight runners on base.
Todd and Simon each finished 3-for-3.
