JACKSON, MS (10.08.21) - After a slow start to the match, the UT Dallas volleyball team found its rhythm and cruised to a 3-0 road win over Belhaven Friday night in ASC play.
The Comets (now 9-8, 7-3 ASC) took over second place in the ASC outright after Friday's win and will look for their first three-match winning streak of the season Saturday afternoon at East Texas Baptist. The second of three consecutive ASC road matches for the Comets is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Marshall.
UTD trailed the host Blazers (2-14, 0-8 ASC) by as many as six points, 12-6, in the opening stanza before finding its footing. The Comets slowly clawed back, eventually knotting the set, 14-14, on an
Abby Jones kill. UTD took the lead for good at 17-16 on a Jones ace before taking the 25-20 first-set victory.Â
The Comets hit just .176 as a team in the first set, but once stepped up their offense in the second and third games. UTD hit .393 in the second (25-14) and .290 in the third (25-13) to complete the road sweep. Neither sets were in doubt for the Comets as BU closed the night hitting just .019 as a team.
Allison Owen collected five of her match-high nine kills in the opening set.
Madison Ball then had four of her eight kills in the second set before both Owen and Ball tallied three kills each in the third.
Sydney Fitt dished out 18 assists and
Emma Sevening finished with 12 assists. Libero
Rachel Baxter sparked the Comets with 12 digs.
