RICHARDSON, TX (11.01.21) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team will begin its run for a sixth all-time ASC title Tuesday with a 5 p.m. home game against LeTourneau in the tournament quarterfinals.
ASC TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
The Comets (10-4-3) enter the ASC Championship Tournament as the No. 3 seed after a 6-2-2 league mark and are one of four teams that earned the right to host a first-round contest. With a win Tuesday, UTD would advance to the ASC Semifinals, to be played Friday on the campus of regular-season champion Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton.
UTD is making its 21st all-time and 12th consecutive trip to the postseason in the program's 24-year history and will be looking for a 12th straight appearance in the ASC Final Four with a win on Tuesday over the visiting YellowJackets. The Comets are 3-0 all-time against LETU in the ASC Tournament with the latest postseason meeting between the two programs coming in 2019, a 2-0 home win for UTD in the quarterfinals. The two teams also met in 1999 (W, 3-0) and 2011 (W, 4-0) tournaments.
The Comets boast of the top offenses in the league, entering the postseason ranked second in the ASC in goals scored (40), assists (31), points (111) and shots taken (285). Freshman forward
Riley O'Donnell leads the league in both goals scored (12) and points (28) this fall.
Brandon Bohn and
Brandon Buchanan are both tied for sixth in the league with six goals scored while O'Donnell along with
Nahome Abraham,
Kane Kidwell and
Adrian Vasquez are all tied for 7th in the ASC with four assists each.
Defensively, the Comets are equally impressive this fall, leading the ASC with eight shutouts. UTD sits third in the league in team goals against average (0.96) and fewest goals allowed (17). Comet keeper
Trey Nickel boasts 0.91 goals against average with five shutouts.
Admission for Tuesday's game is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Per ASC policy, no pets allowed except for service animals.
