GEORGETOWN, TX (11.20.21) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team picked up its third straight win to open the season Saturday afternoon with an 84-66 win over Southwestern to kick off the Paul Peak Classic.
The Comets (3-0) continue the event Sunday with a 2 p.m. contest against Trinity at the Robertson Center.
Kameron Pruitt posted his second-straight 'double-double' as he poured in 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, both game highs, for the Comets to open the weekend. Pruitt was 8-for-11 from the field, hitting four three-pointers, and was 3-for-4 from the foul line against the classic-host Pirates (2-4).
The Comets hit their first three shots from the field, including back-to-back three-pointers by Pruitt and
Luke Kiser, to grab a quick 8-0 lead on Southwestern and never looked back as UTD reached a double-digit lead with just over 14 minutes left in the opening half.Â
UTD led by just four points, 41-37, at the break but regained a double-digit cushion, 53-43, after a
Hunter Stevens three-pointer with 13:22 left to play. The Comets would hold Southwestern to just six points over the final six minutes.
James Curtis added a career-high 13 points while
Kolton Pruitt finished with 11 points and
Donovan Souter had 10 points. Curtis and Souter each collected eight rebounds while Souter dished out a team-best five assists.
