GEORGETOWN, TX (11.21.21) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team was handed its first loss of the season Sunday afternoon with a 95-62 defeat to Trinity to wrap up the Paul Peak Classic, hosted by Southwestern.
The Comets (3-1) shot just 31.3 percent as a team and hit 8-of-33 three-pointers as their season-opening three-game winning streak came to an end against undefeated Trinity (5-0).
Donovan Souter and
Kameron Pruitt each closed the game with 17 points while Souter recorded his first 'double-double' in a Comet uniform with a game-high 10 rebounds.
Hunter Stevens added 11 points and dished out three assists.
The Comets and Tigers exchanged leads early in the contest before Trinity took the lead for good at 10-8 with 16:47 left in the opening half. The Tigers secured a double-digit lead less than 10 minutes later and never looked back.
UTD struggled from three-point range late in the game as the Comets were chasing the Tigers. The Comets hit just 2-of-14 long-range shots over the final 20 minutes as Trinity outscored UTD, 56-37, in the second period.
The Comets return to action Wednesday with a non-conference road game at St. Thomas. Tip-off is 2 p.m. in Houston.
