KERRVILLE, TX (11.09.21) - In his Comet debut, UT Dallas junior guard
Donovan Souter poured in 30 points to lift his squad to a season-opening 77-68 non-conference road win over Schreiner Tuesday night.
A transfer from Richland College, Souter shot 11-for-21 from the field with six three-pointers, to spark the Comets (1-0) to a fifth-straight victory to open a campaign. UTD closed the night with 13 three-pointers as a team, the most since the 2019-20 season.
Souter opened the game with back-to-back treys and would shoot 4-for-8 from three-point range in the opening half to lead the Comets to a slim 37-34 lead at the break. He added two more three-pointers in the second half as UTD never trailed after halftime.
The Comets snagged their first double-digit lead of the night with 10:45 left in the contest when
Luke Kiser drained a jumper to push the UTD lead to 57-46. The Comets led by as many as 17 points on multiple occasions late in the game before setting for the nine-point victory.
James Curtis was the only other Comet to score in double figures, hitting 4-of-8 shots for 11 points along with a game-high nine rebounds, both career highs.
Kolton Pruitt added eight points while Kiser finished with six points.Â
The Comets will host Belhaven Saturday at 2 p.m. in the squad's home and ASC opener.
