BELTON, TX (12.16.21) - The No. 17-ranked UT Dallas women's basketball team suffered its first conference loss of the season Thursday night with a 79-68 overtime defeat at reigning ASC champion Mary Hardin-Baylor.
The Comets (5-2, 4-1 ASC) used an 8-0 run midway through the fourth period to break open a tie game and snag a 57-49 lead over host UMHB only to let the Cru rally back and force the extra period with a buzzer-beater jumper. The Cru (6-2) then outscored UTD, 16-5, in overtime to take over the top spot in the ASC at 4-0.
With the game tied, 49-49, after a UMHB three-pointer with 7:46 left in regulation,
Paris Kiser drained back-to-back jumpers to spark the Comets' eight-point run to seemingly secure the squad's fourth consecutive victory. However, managed just six free throws over the final three minutes as the Cru slowly chipped away at the lead. UMHB clawed within two points twice in the final minute before Arieona Rosborough tied the game at the horn.
The Cru's momentum carried over into overtime as UMHB scored the first five points of the extra period to start to pull away. The Comets answered with a Kiser three-pointer but UMHBÂ rolled off a 7-0 run to secure the win.
Kiser led the Comets with 18 points, hitting 6-of-14 shots from the field, including a pair of treys.
McKenzie Howard added a career-high 14 points, connecting on 8-of-8 foul shots.
Anna Jefferson-Polk finished with nine points along with a team-best 11 rebounds.
The Comets will look to bounce back Saturday afternoon with an ASC road game at Concordia Texas. Tip-off is 1 p.m. in Austin.
