RICHARDSON, TX (12.02.21) - The No. 22-ranked UT Dallas women's basketball team drained five three-pointers in the opening period as the Comets rolled to an 83-59 home win over Howard Payne Thursday night in ASC play.
The Comets (4-1, 3-0 ASC) doubled up HPU, 28-14, in the first quarter and then pulled away late in the contest for their third-straight league victory to open the season. UTD will look to keep atop the ASC standings Saturday afternoon when the Comets host Sul Ross State. Tip-off is 1 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.
Five different UTD players would connect from long range over the first 10 minutes of play as the Comets were 5-for-7 from three-point range in the quarter. The Comets shot 62.5 percent (10-of-16) as a team in the period while forcing seven Lady Jacket turnovers to set the tone for the night.
HPU outscored the Comets in both the second (18-17) and third (15-14) periods before UTD wrapped up the victory with strong defensive performance in the final frame. The Comets would force seven more HPU turnovers in the fourth, outscoring the Lady Jackets, 24-12.
Jordan Maxwell led four Comets in double-digit with a career-high 16 points, while contributing three assists and three rebounds.
Paris Kiser added 12 points while
Kaylee Boykin and
Jordan Rudd both finished with 10 points. Rudd flirted with the first 'triple-double' in program history, adding 10 assists and six rebounds.
The Comets closed the night shooting 43.1 percent from the field and were 9-of-22 from three-point range.
