JACKSON, MS (02.26.21) - The No. 15-ranked UT Dallas volleyball team finally got its 2020-21 season underway Friday night and kicked off the new year a pair of 3-0 road victories over Belhaven in American Southwest Conference East Division play.

The Comets (now 2-0, 2-0 ASC) return to the floor Tuesday night when they host No. 21-ranked East Texas Baptist for a pair of ASC East matches, starting at 4:30 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.

MATCH 1 - UTD 3, BU 0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-15)
Allison Owen collected a match-high 11 kills to lead the Comets a quick 3-0 win over Belhaven in the squad's season opener.

The Comets hit .233 as a team, also getting eight kills from Catherine Croft and six kills each from Gabi Sommerfield and Sydney Sherlock, in the sweep. Croft had four kills and four digs in the opening stanza as the Comets earned a 25-15 first-set victory. Madison Ball sparked UTD to a 25-15 win in the second set with four kills of her own. Owen ramped up things in the third set with six kills in a 25-15 decision to complete the sweep.

UTD had 14 aces and collected 35 digs, nearly 12 per set, in the win. Sydney Fitt guided the offense with 23 assists.

MATCH 2 - UTD 3, BU 0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-17)
Owen finished with 16 kills while Croft added 10 as the Comets rolled off another sweep to close out the season-opening doubleheader at Belhaven.

Owen had five kills and Croft finished with four kills in the opening set as UTD picked up a 25-20 victory. Owent had four kills in a 25-19 win in set two while finishing with seven kills in a 25-17 third set.

The Comets collected seven more aces while picking up 58 digs, nearly 20 per set. Fitt had 23 assists.
