No. 15 Comets Handle East Texas Baptist in ASC Twin Bill

RICHARDSON, TX (03.02.21) - The No. 15-ranked UT Dallas volleyball team celebrated the first home contests of the spring season with a pair of three-set sweeps of No. 21-ranked East Texas Baptist in American Southwest Conference play.
 
The Comets (now 4-0, 4-0 ASC) opened the night with a 25-14, 25-23, 25-16, victory in the opening match. UTD then collected a 25-20, 25-9, 28-26, win to complete the doubleheader sweep of the Tigers.

Catherine Croft had a big night, collecting 25 kills in the two matches while Allison Owens had 18.
 
UTD will return to action Saturday with a 5 p.m. ASC home doubleheader against LeTourneau.
 
MATCH 1 – UTD 3, ETBU 0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-16)

Croft and Owen each had nine kills as they sparked the Comets to a quick 3-0 win over East Texas Baptist to open the doubleheader.
 
The Comets hit .179 as a team, compared to -.039 by the Tigers, to pick up their third straight win to open the new season. Owen had her nine kills in 22 swings for a .227 attack percentage while Croft had a .185 attack percentage. UTD collected five aces, two by libero Rachel Baxter.
 
UTD used three setters in the match with Sydney Fitt leading the way with 15 assists while Emma Sevening had 12 assists.
 
MATCH 2 – UTD 3, ETBU 0 (25-20, 25-9,28-26)

Croft had 16 kills to lift the Comets to a second sweep of ETBU to close the twin bill. Owens and Abby Jones each pitched in nine kills in the short victory.
 
The Comets closed the win hitting .270 as a team, including a near perfect .583 in the decisive 25-9 second set. ETBU nearly forced a fourth stanza, earning four set points, before the Comets rallied for 28-26 victory to end the night.
 
Fitt finished with 20 assists while Sevening had 16.
