LONGVIEW, TX (03.19.21) - The No. 6-ranked UT Dallas volleyball team improved to 12-0 this spring after collecting two road wins over LeTourneau Friday night in American Southwest Conference East Division play.
The Comets opened the doubleheader with their 11th consecutive sweep to open the season before needing four sets complete a 4-0 run over LeTourneau this spring.
UTD will return to action Tuesday, Mar. 23, when the Comets visit East Texas Baptist for a 4:30 p.m. ASC East doubleheader.
MATCH 1 - UTD 3, LETU 0
The Comets kicked off Friday's twin bill with LeTourneau with a 25-20, 25-20, 27-25, sweep of the host YellowJackets.
UTD hit just .154 as a team but closed the sweep with six service aces five blocks while holding off the YellowJackets in each set.
Catherine Croft led all players with 10 kills while
Allison Owen and
Gabi Sommerfield each contributed eight kills in the sweep. Sommerfield led the Comets with three blocks.
Setter
Sydney Fitt closed the win with 21 assists (7.0 per set) while Croft and
Abby Jones each finished with 12 digs.
MATCH 2 - UTD 3, LETU 1
For the first time this spring the Comets were forced to four sets but would hold off LETU for a 25-21, 25-16, 21-25, 25-14, victory to wrap up Friday's doubleheader.
The Comets collected aces aces and six blocks while hitting slightly better in the second match of the night, hitting .202 as a team over the four sets.
Sommerfield led the squad with 15 kills while Croft added 12 kills and
Abby Jones had 10 kills. Jones also corralled a team-high 19 digs and Sommerfield continued her solid play at the net with a match-high five blocks.
Fitt led the offense with 22 assists while
Emma Sevening added 15 assists.
