Jason Hirsch Earns Win No. 100 as Comets Handle SRSU, 4-0

RICHARDSON, TX (04.02.21) - The UT Dallas men's soccer tied is second-highest scoring output in postseason history Thursday night as the Comets rolled to a 4-0 home win over Sul Ross State in the quarterfinals of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament.

Now in his eighth season with the Comets, head coach Jason Hirsch collected his 100th career victory with the lop-sided win and is now 100-28-21 since taking over the program in 2013 after serving as an assistant coach for longtime Comet coach Jack Peel.

The Comets (now 5-0-1) will move on to the ASC semifinals next Thursday, Apr. 8, where they will face Concordia Texas with a spot in the league's title game on the line. The league's semifinals and championship match will be held on the campus of Hardin-Simmons in Abilene.

Nicholas Trest scored twice while Brian Rahmoune and Oliver Hamby each punched one in as the Comets scored the most goals in UTD postseason history since a 5-2 victory over Hardin-Simmons in 2004. Thursday's four-goal differential matches the largest margin of victory in the postseason by the Comets.

Trest opened the scoring in the 30th minute as he received a free kick from Adrian Vasquez and drilled a shot past the SRSU keeper to lift the Comets to a 1-0 halftime lead. Rahmoune doubled the lead in the 47th minute with a tally off of a Vasquez corner kick. Trest's second goal of the game came in the 84th minute while Hamby completed the scoring with less than a minute to play, assisted by Kyle Nguyen and Hashem Shehata.

The Comets closed the win with 26 shots, 11 on frame, compared to just one by the Lobos. Rahmoune led the squad with six shots while Trest and Nahome Abraham each took four shots.
