RICHARDSON, TX (04.02.21) - The UT Dallas women's tennis team took a break from conference play Friday night with a 7-1 home win over NCAA Division II Western New Mexico.
Opening with singles play, the Comets (now 6-3) took four of five contests as the visiting Mustangs only have five players. After earning a default win at No. 6 and No.3Â doubles,
Rebecca Jackson earned a quick 6-0, 6-0, win at No. 4 to give the Comets a 3-0 lead.
Saumya Vedula also picked up a straight set win at No. 3 (6-3, 6-1), before
Samantha Wong locked down the team victory with a 6-3, 1-6, 10-5, win at No. 1.Â
WNMU picked up a win at No. 2 singles before
Aishwarya Kannan closed singles play with a 7-6, 5-7, 11-9, win at No. 5.
Wong and
Kathy Joseph picked up an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 doubles was not played.
The Comets return to American Southwest Conference East Division play next Saturday, Apr. 10, with a 3 p.m. road match at Belhaven in Jackson, Miss.
