BELTON, TX (04.09.21) - The No. 3-ranked UT Dallas volleyball team is heading to the American Southwest Conference championship match for the seventh consecutive season after a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Concordia Texas Friday night in the semifinals.

The Comets (now 15-0) will meet up with No. 8-ranked and tournament host Mary Hardin-Baylor in Saturday's ASC title bout, set for 2 p.m. at the Mayborn Campus Center. UTD and UMHB have played in the last six ASC championship matches with the Comets claiming victory in four of those six meetings.

UTD edged the Tornados (now 9-3), 25-23, in the opening stanza only to watch CTX take the next two sets, 25-23 and 25-21, to take a 2-1 lead. The Comets responded with a dominant 25-12 win in the set and sealed the victory with a 15-9 fifth-set victory.

The Comets hit .316 in the opening set, but had a battle with CTX to hold on for the two-point victory. UTD struggled in the second set, hitting just .056 as a team and committing nine errors in 36 swings. The Comets hit .143 as a team in the third as CTX gained momentum.

UTD then made just four errors over the final two sets, hitting .312 in the fourth and .304 in the fifth. The Comets had three of their 10 blocks in the fourth as they regained control of the match.

Catherine Croft led all hitters with 20 kills, finishing the marathon match with a .207 attack percentage along with 14 digs and four blocks. Madison Ball added 15 kills and nine digs, hitting .394. 

The Comets collected 10 total blocks with Gabi Sommerfield collecting six blocks of her own while Jaryn Towery had four blocks (one solo). UTD finished with eight aces as a team with Abby Jones leading the way with three.

Sydney Fitt led the Comet 6-2 offense with 25 assists with Emma Sevening close behind with 24 assists.

UTD will playing for the seventh ASC championship in program history. The Comets previously claimed the league tournament title in 2008, 2009, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019. Saturday's match with UMHB will be the Comets' 11th all-time appearance in the ASC finals.
