RICHARDSON, TX (09.10.21) - The UT Dallas volleyball team kicked off the squad's Fall Festival Friday afternoon with a quick 3-0 win over LeTourneau, but closed the night with a 3-1 loss to Carnegie Mellon, to wrap up the first day of the two-day event, held at the UTD Activity Center.
The Comets (2-4) not only opened the Fall Festival, but also opened ASC play in their win over LETU, downing the YellowJackets in straight sets, 25-14, 25-18, 25-18. However, the late match proved a bit tougher as UTD fell to the the Tartans in four sets, 29-27, 23-25, 25-18, 25-13.
UTD will close the Fall Festival Saturday with two more matches, facing Southwestern at 12:30 p.m. and then wrapping up the event against Aurora at 5:30 p.m.
MATCH 1 - UTD 3, LETU 0
Erin Rogers led the Comets with 10 kills adn a .438 hitting percentage as UTD rolled to a 3-0 win over LETU in the opening match of the Fall Classic, and the Comets opener in ASC play.
Allison Owen and
Abby Jones each finished with eight kills while
Catherine Croft added seven kills in a balanced attack by the Comets in the sweep. UTD closed the match hitting .196 as a squad and used 11 service aces to set the tone.
Mikayla Cho dished out 15 assists while
Sydney Fitt had 13 assists. Libero Rachel Bxter led the Comets with 17 digs.
MATCH 2 - CMU 3, UTD 1
The Comets let the opening set slip away and could not keep pace late in the match against Carnegie-Mellon, falling to the Tartans in four sets.
UTD led the majority of the first set against the Tartans and even had three set points, but could not put away CMU in the stanza. The Comets did bounce back with a 25-23 win in the second set, but struggled in the next two sets to drop the match, 3-1.
Jones led the Comets with 18 kills while Croft with right behind her with 17 kills. Owen added 13 kills as the trio accounted for 48 of the squad's 55 kills in the match. UTD closed the loss hitting just .188 as a squad with eight service errors and seven reception errors.
Baxter led four Comets in double digits with 21 digs while Cho handed out 27 assists.
