Mariana Gonzalez made six saves for the second straight outing as the Comets collected their sixth consecutive shutout Saturday night with a 2-0 victory over Howard Payne in ASC play.
The Comets improved to 8-1 overall on the win, winning their eighth straight contest after a season-opening loss, and are now 2-0 in ASC play.Â
Host UTD opened the scoring in the sixth minute when
Bella Granada was credited with her fifth goal of the fall as a
Sierra Foster shot ricocheted off her shoulder and past the HPU keeper. It was Foster's fourth assist of the season. The Comets doubled their lead to 2-0 by the break as
Stephanie Ward tallied her third goal of the year from 30 yards out, thanks to assists by
Kendall Miskimins and Claire OSullivan.
The Comets and Lady Jackets matched each other in total shots, 11-11, with both squads finishing with six shots on frame. Foster led the Comets with four shots while Ward took three shots.
UTD returns to action Thursday night when the Comets visit Concordia Texas in Austin. The ASC contest is slated to start at 5 p.m.
