Comets Dealt Double OT Road Loss at Concordia Texas

ROUND ROCK TX (09.30.21) - The UT Dallas women's soccer team had its eight-game winning streak snapped Thursday afternoon with a 2-1 double-overtime road loss at Concordia Texas in ASC play.

The Comets (8-2, 2-1 ASC) took an early lead on host CTX, but a late regulation goal by the Tornados sent UTD to overtime for the second this season. After a scoreless first extra period, CTX ended the game in the 102nd minute with put-back goal after a save by Comet keeper Mariana Gonzalez.

UTD opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Rana Hussein found the back of the net thanks to assists from Sofia Munoz and Keely Fillman. The tally was Hussein's fourth of the season and it pushed the Comets to a 1-0 lead at the break. The Tornados (4-4-1, 3-0 ASC) evened the match in the 78th minute to force extra time.

The Comets collected 18 shots, seven on frame, with Munoz leading the squad with six shots. Fillman added four shots. Gonzalez, the reigning ASC Defensive Player of the Week, made five saves.

UTD will look to bounce back Saturday night when the Comets visit Mary Hardin-Baylor in another key ASC contest. Game time is 5 p.m. in Belton.
