ST. LOUIS, MO (09.04.21) - The No. 13-ranked UT Dallas volleyball team closed out the Bear Invite Saturday with a split against its final two opponents, including the Comets' first win of the season.
The Comets (1-3) opened Saturday with a 3-1 win over Webster before dropping a 3-1 decision to tournament-host Washington-St. Louis. The squad will return to action next weekend (Sep. 10-11) with the UT Dallas Fall Festival at the UTD Activity Center.
MATCH 1 - UTD 3, WEBSTER 1
Allison Owen, who was later named to the event's All-Tournament Team, led three Comets in double-digit kills with a match-high 18 as UTD earned its first win of the fall Saturday morning with a 25-22, 30-32, 25-23, 25-19, win over Webster.
Owen hit .400 in the victory, adding six digs, an ace and a block.
Abby Jones added 16 kills while
Erin Rogers had 14 kills.
Gabi Sommerfield ended with nine kills and five blocks.
Mikayla Cho led the Comets with 26 assisted, adding a team-high 12 digs, while
Sydney Fitt had 24 assists.
Rachel Baxter also had 12 digs.
The Comets hit .277 as a team with eight total blocks.
MATCH 2 - WASHU 3, UTD 1
The Comets wrapped up the Bear Invite with a 3-1 loss to host Washington-St. Louis, falling to the Bears, 25-20, 25-18, 19-25, 25-22.
UTD hit .174 in the loss while collecting eight more blocks, but could not keep pace with the Bears in the four-set defeat.
Catherine Croft led the Comets with 15 kills while Owen added 10 kills.
Emma Sevening had a team-high 20 assists with Cho adding 11 assists and Fitt finishing with five assists. Jones led the Comets with 12 digs.
