RICHARDSON, TX (09.05.21) - Down 1-0 at the break, the UT Dallas women's soccer team scored three goals over a span of less than seven minutes early in the second half to eventually earn a 4-1 non-conference home win over Austin College Sunday night.
The Comets (2-1) have now collected back-to-back home victories after suffering a season-opening road loss and will look to keep rolling next weekend as they continue their four-game home stand. UTD will next host Birmingham-Southern at 6 p.m. Friday.
Sofia Munoz knotted the game, 1-1,with penalty kick in the 55th minute after an AC yellow card in the box. Just over a minute later,
Sierra Foster netted the go-ahead goal as she drilled home a free kick from nearly 30 yards out in the 56th minute.
Foster added another goal in the 62nd minute as she took advantage of a 'Roo defensive miscue and beat the AC keeper one-on-one to push the Comet lead to 3-1. The Comets would complete the scoring in the 75th minute with a penalty kick by
Keely Fillman.
The Comets struggled through a fruitless opening half after taking 18 shots, eight on goal, before intermission. AC took just two shots in the opening half, one of those a goal by Sydney Padget off a corner kick in the 16th minute.
UTD finished the night with a 31-3 shot advantage, collecting 18 shots on goal. Foster took a team-high seven shots, on on goal, while Munoz and
Kate Crowe each took four shots. Starting keeper
Mariana Gonzalez gave up a goal with one save in just under 81 minutes of play.
Jade Press played the final nine minutes without facing a shot.
