Hot Start Pushes Comet Men to 115-87 ASC Home Win Over Ozarks

RICHARDSON, TX (01.15.22) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team scored the first 21 points of the game en route to a 115-87 home win over Ozarks in ASC play Saturday afternoon.

The Comets (9-3, 5-2 ASC) topped the century mark for the first time this season and scored their most points since the 2017-18 season as they rolled of their third straight victory. UTD will look for a fourth consecutive win Monday with a 5 p.m. ASC road game at LeTourneau in Longview.

UTD opened the game 9-for-11 from the floor, including a pair of three-pointers from Luke Kiser and Donovan Souter, to grab a 21-0 lead over the visiting Eagles by the 15:22 mark of the opening half. After a second timeout, Ozarks (3-11, 2-7 ASC) started to rally midway through the opening half but would get no closer than 14 points before the Comets would pull away again for a 63-33 lead at intermission. The Comets would not lead by less than 19 points over the final 20 minutes of play, clearing the bench late in the contest.

Souter led five Comets in double figures with 29 points, one shy of his season high, while adding seven assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals. Souter was 9-for-13 from the field, hitting four treys, and 7-for-7 from the foul line. James Curtis finished with a career-best 19 points while fellow starters Kiser and Kameron Pruitt added 13 and 12 points, respectively. Jalen Williams came off the bench for 11 points. Pruitt, Kiser and Williams each collected a team-best six rebounds.

The Comets shot an impressive 65.7 percent (23-of-35) from the floor in the opening half, connecting on 7-of-15 three-pointers before the break. UTD's 63 points in the period were the most in a half since scoring 64 points in a 113-73 win over East Texas Baptist on Jan. 10, 2019. The Comets' 115 points were the most in a game for the program since a 117-105 non-conference road win over Rhodes on Dec. 29, 2017.

Grayson Nix led the Eagles wtih a game-high 32 points, setting an ASC record for free throws made without a miss at 17-for-17.
