LONGVIEW, TX (01.17.22) - Despite a seven-point lead in the final two minutes of the game, the UT Dallas men's basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped with a last-second basket in a 85-84 ASC road loss at league-leading LeTourneau Monday night.
The Comets (9-4, 5-3 ASC) had at least for players score in double digits for the third consecutive game and led by as many as 10 points down the stretch before host LETU rallied for the victory.
With the game knotted 65-65 with 7:24 left in the contest, the Comets used a 12-2 run over the next three minutes to grab their first double-digit lead of the game after a
Kolton Pruitt three-pointer pushed the UTD lead to 77-67 at the 4:18 mark.
However, the Comets hit just two field goals over the final two minutes as LETU (12-2, 7-2 ASC) slowly chipped away at the lead. The YellowJackets drew within a single points, 84-83, with 22 seconds left after a pair of Warren Richardson, and after a Comet turnover, Andrew Eberhardt hit the game-winning jumper after two LETU offensive rebounds with one second on the clock.
Up 39-37Â at the break, the Comets used back-to-back three-pointers by
Donovan Souter and
Kameron Pruitt to pull away from LETU early in the second half. UTD's biggest lead of the night came at the 16:01 mark of the second period when a
Kolton Pruitt 14:46 mark of the second period when a
James Curtis trey pushed the comet advantage to 55-41.
The Comets controlled the game early, leading by as many as nine points in the opening half after
Will Isaac capped a 5-0 run by UTD to lift the visitors to a 26-17 cushion with 8:26 left before intermission. The YellowJackets clawed back to knot the game twice late in the half before
Caden McKenzie pushed the Comets to a two-point halftime lead.
Kameron Pruitt led the Comets with 22 points, hitting 9-of-12 shots from the field, while older brother
Kolton Pruitt added 21 points with five three-pointers. Curtis had 11 points and Souter and
Luke Kiser each finished with 10 points.
The Comets will open a four-game road trip Thursday with a 7:30 p.m. ASC outing at Sul Ross State in Alpine.
