JACKSON, MS (01.27.22) - Five Comets scored in double figures as the UT Dallas men's basketball team earned its third straight win with a 80-70 ASC road victory over Belhaven Thursday night.
The Comets improved to 12-4 overall and 8-3 in ASC play with Thursday's win to take over sole possession of third place in the league standings with seven games left in the regular season. UTD will wrap up its five-game road trip Saturday with a 3 p.m. game at fifth-place East Texas Baptist in Marshall.
Kolton Pruitt closed the night with a game-high 18 points, hitting 4-of-10 three-pointers, while brother
Kameron Pruitt added 17 points.
Hunter Stevens scored 16 points,
James Curtis had 11 points and
Caden McKenzie came off the bench for 10 points to round out the Comets in double digits.
After falling behind the host Blazers early, UTD would take the lead for good with 9:30 left the opening half when a
Kolton Pruitt trey lifted the Comets to a 22-20 advantage. Pruitt's three would ignite a 23-13 run by UTD to close out the half with the Comets taking a 42-33 into the locker room.
The Comets took their first double-digit lead of the night with 13:57 left in the contest with a Curtis lay up pushed UTD to a 53-43 cushion over the Blazers. UTD would push the lead to as many as 17 points late in the game before settling for the 10-point victory.
UTD hit 11-of-23 three-pointers as a team, reaching double-digit treys for the fourth time in five games and ninth time this season. The Comets out-rebounded BU, 31-21, and forced 19 turnovers.
