RICHARDSON, TX (01.31.22) - Hot off the program's second league title in four seasons, the UT Dallas baseball team is the overwhelming favorite to repeat as ASC Champions in 2022, according to the league's preseason poll released Monday.

The Comets posted a 30-12 overall record in 2021 with a 19-7 ASC mark as the squad earned the league's regular season and postseason title for the first time in program history. UTD made its third-ever appearance in the NCAA D-III National Championship last spring, serving as the ASC's automatic qualifier in the 48-team championship field.
UTD collected 15-of-22 first place votes in the ballot of the league's head coaches and sports information directors for 274 points in Monday's poll. East Texas Baptist, last season's regular-season and tournament runner-up, was a distant second place in the voting with 218 points and five top votes. Concordia Texas was third in the voting with 199 points and the remaining two first-place votes.
Mary Hardin-Baylor was fourth in the poll with 171 points, Ozarks (131) fifth, Belhaven (130) sixth, LeTourneau (100) seventh, Sul Ross State (92) eighth, Hardin-Simmons (61) ninth, Howard Payne (47) 10th and McMurry (45) 11th.
In addition, two Comets were recognized as Preseason Players to Watch in the ASC this spring as outfielder
A.J. Liu and pitcher
Carter Cochrane were among the 22 players single out by the league's coaches. Both Liu and Cochrane were first-team All-ASC selections in 2022.
