Comets Tame 'Roos in Four Sets

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas volleyball team finished off its final non-conference opponent of the regular season, defeating Austin 25-19, 20-25, 25-23, 25-14 at the UTD Activity Center Tuesday night.

The Comets (12-4) pulled away with the first set, but the visiting 'Roos (10-11) rebounded to take the second. In the third frame, UTD led 18-12, before AC answered with a 9-2 rally to go up 21-20. The teams were knotted at 23-23 but a pair of Austin attack errors led to the host team taking the set 25-23. In the final set, the Comets hit .250 with 13 kills, while the 'Roos hit .000 on seven kills giving UTD the decisive game 25-14.

For the match, the Comets hit .187 with 61 kills, five aces, five blocks and 84 digs while the 'Roos hit .153 with 41 kills, three aces, 14 blocks and 64 digs.

UT Dallas Notes
- Junior setter Emma Sevening moved into eighth place on the school's all-time assist list with 29 on Tuesday. Her career total is now 852.
- Senior middle blocker Karle Lynd recorded a career-high 16 kills while hitting .636 with three blocks.
- Fellow senior Abby Jones connected on 16 kills to go with 15 digs for her sixth double-double of the year.
- Senior outside hitter Madison Ball posted 25 digs with eight kills.
- Freshman right side Gabi Engels registered nine kills.
- Junior libero Rachel Baxter had 14 digs.
- Junior setter Izzy Sundquist had 14 assists and 11 digs for her third double-double of the season.

Austin Notes
- Victoria Smith led the 'Roos offensively, hitting .286 on 13 kills.
- Mattie Duncan added six kills and eight blocks.
- Libero Tatum Torres recorded 15 digs and a pair of aces.
- Setter Brianne Tseng had 18 kills and seven digs.

Up Next
The Comets play at home again on Saturday at 1 p.m. with an American Southwest Conference contest against LeTourneau. The match will be senior day and will celebrate the alumni as well.
