RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas volleyball team took one step closer to the American Southwest Conference regular season title by sweeping Mary Hardin-Baylor 25-22, 25-18, 25-17 at the UTD Activity Center Friday night.
With three matches remaining, the Comets (14-5, 10-2 ASC) need just one more win to secure the regular season title and chance to host the ASC Championship Tournament November 3-5.
The first set versus the Cru (15-7, 8-5 ASC) was the closest one as it had 12 ties and six lead changes. Tied at 21-21, UTD took four of the final five points, including a kill and ace by senior
Madison Ball and another kill from senior
Catherine Croft. Up 17-14 in the second, the Comets ended the frame on an 8-4 run before dominating the third and final game. The sweep was the fifth of the year for the home team.
For the match, UT Dallas hit .211 with 41 kills, a season-best 12 aces, four blocks and 64 digs. UMHB hit .142 on 29 kills, one ace, five blocks and 56 digs.
UT Dallas Notes
- Croft led all players with 14 kills and served three aces. She moves into ninth on the Comet career list in both kills (896) and aces (99).
- Freshman middle blocker
Lauren Johnson tied her season-best with seven kills and led UTD with three blocks.
- Senior outside
Abby Jones had six kills and 14 digs and freshman right side
Gabi Engels also posted six kills.
- Junior libero
Rachel Baxter led all players with 17 digs and Ball finished with 12 digs and three aces.
- Junior setter
Emma Sevening had 20 assists and nine digs.
- Setter
Izzy Sundquist added 16 assists and tied her career-high with four aces.
Mary Hardin-Baylor Notes
- Hannah Frasca and Kaylie Vasil led the Cru with six kills each. Frasca also had 11 digs and three blocks.
- Jenci Seahorn added five kills and three blocks.
- Gracie Nichols came up with 12 digs and Ella Brunson had 15 assists and eight digs.
