Comets Earn Bid to ASC Tourney with 1-0 Win over Tigers

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas women's soccer team earned a spot in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament after defeating East Texas Baptist 1-0 at the UTD Soccer Complex Saturday night.

After the win, the Comets (7-5-1, 4-2-1 ASC) sit in fifth place with two games left in the regular season. The tournament begins on November 1 with the quarterfinals at the No. 3 & 4 home pitches.

Freshman midfielder Janae Shaklee blasted a free kick from just past midfield, connecting with fellow freshman Tori Aucoin who headed the ball in for the lone goal of the contest in the 40th minute.

The Comets outshot the Tigers (6-8-2, 0-6-1 ASC) 11-8 overall and 5-1 on goal. ETBU led in corner kicks 4-1 and both teams committed four fouls.

After the game, UTD honored its lone senior - forward Kaitlin Manning.

- Aucoin's goal was the first of her career.
- Shaklee served up her team-leading sixth assist of the year.
- Manning led the Comets with three shots, two on goal.
- Shaklee and Alexa Poage each took a shot on goal.
- The game was the sixth shutout of the year for UTD.

- Amy Pineda led the Tigers with four shots.
- Kat Izaguirre took the only shot on goal for ETBU.
- Addison Funk recorded four saves in goal.
