ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The UT Dallas men's basketball team used a hot shooting touch as they defeated Fredonia 81-46 at the Chuck Resler Tournament hosted by the University of Rochester Saturday afternoon.
The Comets (1-1) shot a blistering 53.2 percent (33-for-62) from the field and 53.8 percent (14-of-26) from three-point range to pick up the squad's first win of the 2022-23 season. Meanwhile, the defense limited the Devils (0-3) to just 25.4 percent overall (15-for-59) and 16.1 percent (5-of-31) from outside.
A three-pointer by senior guard
Hunter Stevens to start the game gave UTD the lead which they would hold the entire game, sans an early 5-5 tie. They pushed the lead to as many as 22 points in the first half before taking a 40-21 advantage into the break. The Comets led by as many as 39 in the second period.
UTD recorded 49 rebounds, 18 assists, two blocks, 10 steals and 22 turnovers and were 1-for-5 at the free throw line. Fredonia had 29 rebounds, eight assists, one block, 12 steals and 20 turnovers and shot 11-for-14 at the line.

- Graduate student guard
Kyle Poerschke led the Comets with 20 points, going 5-for-7 from three-point territory. He also grabbed six boards.
- Stevens finished with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists.
- Senior forward
James Curtis scored 10 points, dished out five assists and had a career-best three steals.
- Sophomore forward
Brayden Wright added six points and a career-high five rebounds.

Rob Wade came off the bench for nine points and a career-high seven rebounds.

Caden McKenzie netted eight points.
