RICHARDSON, Texas - Head coach
Joe Shotland earned his first victory as the UT Dallas women's basketball coach with a 69-37 victory over Covenant in the UTD Hoops Classic Friday night.
The Comets (1-2) led the entire game and took care of the ball with just six turnovers committed. They led the Scots (1-3) 14-6 after the first quarter and 26-18 at the half. The home team shot a scorching 54.5 percent (18-of-33) from the field in the second half and led by as many as 33 points.
For the game, UTD shot 40 percent (26-for-65) overall, was 9-for-34 from three-point range and 8-for-11 from the free throw line. They also recorded 41 rebounds, 17 assists, four blocks and 11 steals.
Covenant shot 27.1 percent (13-for-48) from the field, 6-of-18 from behind the arc and 5-for-9 at the line.
UT Dallas Notes
- The Comets tied the school record with 34 three-point attempts.
- Junior guard
Kaylee Boykin scored a career-high 19 points and tied her best with seven rebounds while dishing out three assists.
- Senior guard
Lauren Fulenwider netted 11 points while hitting a trio of three-pointers.
- Senior forward
Diane Hurst also had a career-high of 10 points and pulled down five boards.

- Senior guard Joradn Maxwell recorded five assists and a pair of steals.

McKenzie Howard posted six rebound, two assists and two blocked shots.
