SHERMAN, Texas - The UT Dallas women's basketball team overcame a six-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat Austin 55-47 in overtime at Hughey Gym Wednesday afternoon.
After a nearly even first half, where the 'Roos (0-11) led 24-23, the home team outscored the Comets (6-5) 15-10 in the third quarter for a a six-point lead.Â
Still trailing by six with 8:11 remaining in regulation, UTD went on an 8-0 run over the next seven minutes to take a 45-43 lead at the 1:09 mark. Senior guard
Maddie Edler made a pair of three-pointers during the run and junior guard
Kaylee Boykin hit two buckets to put the Comets in the lead.
Sarah Putnicki tied the game at the buzzer with a basket to force overtime.Â
UTD cruised in the extra period, outscoring Austin 10-2. The visiting team were 2-for-3 from the field and 5-for-6 at the line while the 'Roos managed just a pair of free throws.Â
For the game, the Comets shot 30 percent (21-for-70) from the field, 5-for-21 from three-point range and 8-of-11 at the free throw line. They also recorded 55 rebounds, 13 assists, four blocks, 11 steals and 11 turnovers.
Austin shot 30.4 percent (17-for-56) overall, 8-for-18 from outside and 5-for-8 from the line with 37 boards, 16 assists, 13 turnovers, six blocks and eight steals.
UT Dallas Notes
- For the second game in a row, senior guard
Jordan Maxwell led the Comets in scoring with 12 points, including six in the overtime. She also had season-highs of six rebounds and five steals and dished out four assists.Â
- Boykin finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Diane Hurst recorded six points, five rebounds and two blocks - both of which came in the extra period.

Blythe Williams led all players with a season-best 10 rebounds.

- Megan O'Neil paced the 'Roos with 15 points, connecting on five three-pointers.
