RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas men's basketball team improved to 3-0 in American Southwest Conference play by defeating Sul Ross State 74-66 at the UTD Activity Center Saturday afternoon.
The Comets (3-0) started off on fire, making six of their first seven shots, to take a 14-0 over the first five minutes. They would lead by as many as 21 points before taking a 35-20 advantage into halftime.
UTD lead by 19 with 11:38 left in the contest, but the Lobos (1-5, 0-2 ASC) slowly chipped away at the lead and cut the deficit to five points with under a minute to play. A basket and a pair of free throws from Comet sophomore
Luke Kiser in the final minute secured the victory for the home team.
For the game, UTD shot 38.1 percent (24-for-63) from the field, 6-for-32 from outside and 20-for-31 at the line. They also pulled down a season-best 55 rebounds to go with 17 assists, eight steals, two blocks and 20 turnovers.
Sul Ross shot 37.9 percent (22-for-58) from the floor, 10-for-30 from three-point range and 12-of-18 at the line to go with 28 boards, 15 assists, 10 steals and 15 turnovers.

- Sophomore guard
Thibaut Tagnon came off the bench to record career-highs with 14 points and six rebounds.Â
- Senior forward
James Curtis scored a season-best 11 points to go with seven rebounds. He hit a trio of three-pointers.
- Center
Will Isaac had 10 points, five boards and a blocked shot.
- Guard
Kyle Poerschke netted 10 points to go with seven rebounds.
- Kiser finished with eight points and three assists.
- Senior guard
Hunter Stevens posted seven points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals. He moved into seventh place on the Comets' career assists list with 247.Â
Sul Ross State Notes
- Trey Nelson led all players with 20 points and dished out three assists.
- Caelyb Kerley scored 14 points to go with five boards off the bench.
- Julian Paredes had 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
