RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas women's basketball team suffered its first American Southwest Conference loss of the year, falling to Sul Ross State 59-52 at the UTD Activity Center Saturday afternoon.
The Comets (3-4, 1-1 ASC) led 12-11 after the first quarter, but the Lobos (5-4, 2-0 ASC) responded to take a 30-25 advantage into the break. With Sul Ross up 55-43 with 2:45 left in the game, UTD went on a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to three with 42 seconds left.
Lauren Fulenwider and
Amanda Crowninshield each hit a three-pointer in the rally.
The Lobos held off the late run by going 4-for-6 at the free throw line in the final 26 seconds.
For the game, UTD shot 29 percent (20-of-69) from the field, 7-of-30 from outside and 5-for-9 at the free throw line. They also had 46 rebounds, 12 assists, eight steals, four blocks and 28 turnovers.
SRSU shot 37.7 percent (23-for-61) overall, 3-for-13 from three-point range and 10-for-17 at the stripe with 49 rebounds, 14 assists, 22 steals, three blocks and 26 turnovers.
UT Dallas Notes
- Crowninshield recorded double-digit scoring for the third straight game, leading UTD with 13 points.
- Senior guard
Jordan Maxwell recorded season-highs of 10 points and three steals to go with five rebounds, four assists and a blocked shot.
- Junior center
Mia Rudin pulled down a season-best five offensive boards and scored four points.

- Marley Rokas recorded a double-double of 13 points and six rebounds and had five assists and four steals.
- Melody Martinez also had 13 points with six boards.
- Vania Hampton had six points, nine rebounds and three steals.
- Kayley Diaz came off the bench for eight points, four boards and five steals.
