CONWAY, Ark. - The UT Dallas men's basketball celebrated New Year's Eve early with a 76-69 non-conference win at Hendrix Saturday afternoon at Grove Gymnasium.
The host Warriors (1-11) led 26-17 with just under nine minutes to play in the opening period, but the Comets (10-2) ended the half on a 20-7 run to take a 37-33 advantage into the break.
UTD led the entire second half with Hendrix pulling within two at 68-66 with 2:34 remaining. The Comets hit six free throws and scored a bucket in the final minutes to hold off the Warrior comeback.
UTD shot 48.4 percent (30-for-62) from the field, 5-for-23 from three-point range and 11-of-18 at the line. They also recorded 76 points, 30 rebounds, 15 assists, two blocks, 14 steals and 13 turnovers.
Hendrix shot 48.1 percent (26-of-54) overall, 5-for-14 from outside and 12-of-12 at the stripe with 29 boards, 11 assists, three blocks, seven steals and 20 turnovers.
UT Dallas Notes
- Graduate student guard
Kyle Poerschke led all players with 23 points and pulled down five rebounds. He now has 10 double-digit scoring games and five with more than 20 this season.
- Senior
Hunter Stevens had his fourth double-digit scoring performance of the year with 10 points to go with five boards and five assists.
- Senior center
Will Isaac netted eight points and eight rebounds - six offensive - with a pair of blocks and two steals.
- Forward
James Curtis finished with seven points and a career-high four steals.
- Freshman forward
Austin Page had nine points on 4-of-5 shooting off the bench.
