Comet Women Stumble at Home Against HSU, 68-56

RICHARDSON, TX (02.10.22) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team suffered a 68-56 home loss to Hardin-Simmons Thursday night in ASC play.

With the loss, the Comets (11-6, 10-4 ASC) slip to a tie for third place in the ASC standings, with HSU, with just two games left to play in the regular season. UTD will look to bounce back Saturday afternoon as the squad celebrates Senior Day against last-place McMurry. Tip-off is 1 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.

After a competitive opening period, the visiting Cowgirls (15-4, 10-4 ASC) started to pull away early in the second, using a 16-7 spurt before the media timeout to grab a nine-point cushion, 30-21, with 4:48 left before the break. HSU widened its lead to as many as 15 points before settling for a 38-25 lead at intermission.

The Cowgirls grabbed their largest lead of the night with 6:03 left in the third when Hallie Edmundson used a lay up to give HSU a 45-29 advantage. The Comets clawed back within single digits, 50-41, by the end of the third, and used a 7-0 run midway through the fourth, capped by back-to-back buckets by Blythe Williams to cut the deficit to just six points, 56-50, with 5:09 to play. However, HSU would hold the Comets to a single field goal over the final five minutes to earn the victory.

Paris Kiser led the Comets with a game-high 23 points, finishing 9-of-22 from the floor, and draining a pair of three-pointers. Williams came off the bench for seven points while Jordan Rudd led UTD with eight rebounds and three assists.
