RICHARDSON,TX (02.06.22) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team returned home after five straight road games Sunday and suffered an 85-72 home loss to No. 18-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor in ASC play.
The Comets (12-6, 8-5 ASC) will have little time to regroup as they host Concordia Texas Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the second of five consecutive home contests. UTD currently sits in fourth place in the ASC with five games left in the regular season.
ASC-leading UMHB (16-2, 11-2 ASC) started to pull away from the Comets late in the opening half. With the game knotted, 19-19, with 10 minutes left before the break, the Cru rolled off seven-straight points and took their first double-digit lead, 32-22, with 4:57 left in the half. UMHB would take a 41-30 lead into the locker room after a buzzer-beating three-pointer.
The Cru would then open the second half on a 17-3 run to push their lead past 20 points before midway point of the period and would lead by as many as 31 points with just under nine minutes to play before resting their starters. The Comets bench closed the gap late in the game, nearly clawing back to single digits before the final minute of the contest.
Caden McKenzie scored a team-best 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting, hitting three treys, while
Rob Wade came off the bench for a career-high 13 points, hitting 6-of-6 free throws late in the contest.Â
