Samantha Wong picked up a key singles victory but the No. 26-ranked UT Dallas women's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision at No. 2-ranked Emory Friday afternoon.

Emory struck first as Emma Cartledge and Stephanie Shulman posted an 8-1 win at position No. 3 doubles over Comets
Megan Zeng and
Suzuka Nishino to give the Eagles an early led. At position No. 2 doubles, Jessica Fatemi and Eliza McPherron squared off against UTD's
Saumya Vedula and
Rebecca Jackson. Vedula and Jackson wouldn't go down easy, but the duo would end up dropping the match 8-3 giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Emory's Ana Cristina and Christina Watson took the last double point over Wong and
Elyssa Ducret an position No. 1 with an 8-5 final giving the Eagles a 3-0 advantage.

In singles play, Emory notched straight set wins at the No. 4 and No. 3 position to take a 5-0 edge and clinch the match. Wong recorded the only point for the Comets defeating McPerron 7-5, 5-7, 10-6, at the No. 1 singles position to cut the deficit to 5-1. Emory would go on to straight set wins at position No. 2 and No. 5 for the 8-1 final.

The Comets will get a week off before taking on East Texas Baptist to open ASC East play on Friday, March 25 at 2 p.m. in Marshall.
