RICHARDSON, TX (04.28.22) - The UT Dallas women's tennis team quickly dispatched Mary Hardin-Baylor, 5-0, Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the 2022 ASC Women's Tennis Championship, played at the UTD Courts.

The Comets (9-2) cruised through doubles play, giving up just three total games, and then earned a pair of near-perfect singles victories to punch their ticket into Friday's semifinal match against Concordia Texas. That contest is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The twosome of
Saumya Vedula and
Rebecca Jackson opened the doubles portion of the duel with a brisk 8-0 win over UMHB's Chloe Norris and Brynn Harmsen at No. 2. Top-flighted duo of
Samantha Wong and
Elyssa Ducret added a clean 8-0 win of their own over Adrianna McElwain and Jalon Burns to give the Comets a 2-0 advantage.
Megan Zeng and
Suzuka Nishino completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win over Victoria Rendon and Katy Beach at No. 3.
Nishino was the first to close her singles match, upending Harmsen, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2. Ducret then clinched the match for the Comets at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-0, win over Beach.
When the match concluded, Wong (No. 1), Vedula (No. 3), Jackson (No. 5) and
Tisha Nakakes-Nguyen (No. 6) were each up a set on their respective opponents.
